Wild hog canoe race!

Today, our family was blessed to be able to attend the "Wild Hog Canoe Race" in gulf hammock! Evan was racing in the Recreational class, with 20 other racers. It turned out to be a wonderful day, especially since quite a few family's from church were there too!

And here they are! Having traveled 15 miles, they were quite worn out.

There were two logs to get over,  which made it extra challenging!

Evan says that the canoe feels like a thousand pounds, when you have to lift it over the log at the end. (Because he's soooo tired)

Annnnnd, the finish line! 2 hours, 56 minutes and 57 seconds.  They missed a trophy paddle and 5th place by 30 seconds, but Evan had a great time, and we all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

Bible Bag.

I made this bag a few days ago from a blog I found here.

It surprised me how easy and fast it was!

I did change it a little bit though... The pattern didn't call for batting, and so I added some in. (Just my preference.) 

To add it in, sew a piece the same size as your lining, to the wrong side of lining. And then just follow the directions like it says from then on.

Also, to make the flower (proper name is yo-yo) I cut a circle about 6x6, and did a gathering stitch all the way around. Then I pulled up the gathers, and pushed them into the middle, and tacked them down. To make the middle part, make another yo-yo, about 2x2 and lay it face down on top of the flower. Sew down through flower, and then sew flower onto bag. 

I am using this as my bible bag, but it's makes a nice purse or hand bag too!

Finished size: 8 1/2 x 10 1/4.

It's a great way to use your scraps! I had so many, I didn't have to use one of them twice!

The backing is some fabric we had stored in the sewing/storage/computer room for awhile, and this was a perfect way to use it up!

 It's supposed to get even nicer after it's washed. (I haven't done so yet)
